Searching for Spirituality,” with Bernie Nebel at 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, Md.
Many Unitarians will say, “I am not religious, but I am spiritual.” I’ve said it for myself. Some time ago I began wondering, “What does ‘being spiritual’ really mean? How does it make a person different, or does it?” I will tell some real-life stories that have special significance for me. Are they spiritual experiences? How so? Lastly, I will describe an avenue toward engendering more such experiences revealed in Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I am still searching.
About Bernie Nebel: “Basically a scientist, I specialized in being a generalist (except for getting a Ph.D. in botany from Duke University in 1965). I entered teaching at CCBC -Catonsville in 1970, just as the environmental movement was getting underway. My generalist background was perfect for developing an original environmental science course, which I did and went on to write a textbook for the course. Retiring in 1995, I turned to elementary science education, self-published a K-8 science curriculum, which has a large Facebook following (over 4000),and is still the center of my thoughts and efforts. Religion was never part of the picture, except for some stray thoughts which I will give in this service.”
