During my time in seminary and as a student of anthropology, I learned the importance of language in any culture. What we say and how we say it matters.
This past month, I hosted a small group discussion on language. Our conversation could have extended far beyond the hour I had scheduled. Following that fruitful discussion, I decided to offer a series of classes on language.
Whether or not you attended the first session, I invite you to join us as we delve deeper into language around ableism. Beginning with a brief review of microaggressions, we will explore slights against those folks who face physical disabilities and/or struggle with mental illness. I look forward to creating a safe space for questions, comments, and discussion. I invite you to bring your own questions with you, as well!
I look forward to Part Three of this series to be held in June. We will discuss language around gender and sexuality.
I hope you will join me!
Warmly,
Rev. Jane
