“Hope and Love Await” with Rev. Jane Bennett Smith

The Easter story offers a powerful metaphor.  Each year, we are reminded that hope, love, and life persevere and triumph over hate, violence and death. The resurrection of Jesus offers us a tale of spiritual transformation that can help shape us. Furthermore, resurrection can be understood as a form of awakening, of finding warmth and love in surprising places.  This Sunday we explore what happens when hope, love, transformation, and awakening overlap.

_____________

Each Easter, we celebrate life emerging from death. We celebrate love and hope emerging from grief and despair.  In reflecting on the new and joyous emerging from the dormant, I cannot help but be reminded of pink, purple, blue and yellow petals emerging from crusty, dry, hard winter earth.  In preparation for this Easter Sunday, I invite you to create your own flowers, perhaps inspired by the awakenings of your own heart as new life emerges all around us.  Our creations may be crayon on paper, tissue paper and pipe cleaners, molded clay, or any form of creative art.  This Sunday, we have the opportunity to share our creations with others in our midst.
