Learning and Growing -- Loving Hearts, Helping Hands

About once per month, all children and youth meet together, rather than in their regular classes, for our Loving Hearts, Helping Hands children and youth social responsibility ministry.  They work together on social responsibility projects to give them direct experience in putting their faith into action.

We light this chalice to celebrate

Unitarian Universalism,

the church of open minds,

helping hands, and loving hearts.

These words are often used as an opening in our Religious Education classes.  They formed the inspiration for the Loving Hearts, Helping Hands Youth Ministry, or LH3 as we call it.  Children and youth of all ages spend class once per month performing service.  They have accomplished some wonderful things since the inception of this program, including making helping kits for homeless persons, holiday cards for the Westside Homeless Shelter, and holding a bake sale to send to Doctors Without Borders in support of the ebola treatment effort.  The children and youth are encouraged to explore why they are doing these activities and to bring their own service ideas for the group to work on.
